Beautiful trainer, 24, discovered mendacity lifeless on the ground after night time out
‘Beloved’ young teacher Emily Rose Browning was found on her bedroom floor by her boyfriend having taken cocaine and alcohol over the course of the evening
A young ‘kind’ teacher was found dead on her bedroom floor, having suffered a cardiac arrest following a night out with her friends.
Emily Rose Browning died in her home in December 2024 after consuming alcohol and cocaine, an inquest heard. Held at Pontypridd coroners’ court, the inquest concluded that the “kind” and “caring” 24-year-old primary school teacher died of a cardiac arrest following her night out.
It’s thought she died when vomit entered her lungs as she lay on the floor, where her boyfriend, Jack Weston, found her. Coroner Graeme Hughes concluded her death was likely due to: “The intoxicating effects of alcohol and illicit drug use, leading to aspiration of vomit, cardiac arrest and a devastating hypoxic brain injury.”
He added that Emily had “consumed alcohol and cocaine” over the evening, first at home, and then while out in Cardiff.
He added: “She became intermittently unwell, and friends did have some concerns for her welfare. She and her boyfriend returned home and she went to bed.
“After he returned home a short while later, she was found on the floor of the bedroom.”
An ambulance took Emily to the University Hospital of Wales. She fell ill on December 7, 2024 and died three days later in hospital on December 10. The coroner said Emily’s death was alcohol and drug-related.
Growing up in Somerset, Emily moved to the Welsh capital for study, and went on to become a teacher at the city’s Gladstone Primary School.
Colleagues paid tribute to her, saying she was a “beloved teacher” who left a “lasting impression on the pupils in her care”.
They added: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Emily, a beloved teacher at Gladstone, whose kindness, passion, and dedication left a lasting impact on every child, colleague, and parent who had the privilege of knowing her.”
A fundraiser was set up in her name to fund a memorial garden at the primary school.
Gladstone Primary School said they wanted to “create a space that embodies the warmth and compassion Emily shared with us every day”.
“To honour her memory, we are going to create a memorial garden.
“This garden will be a space for reflection, joy, and growth…a place where children can learn through outdoor experiences, and find peace and inspiration.
“It will reflect Emily’s values of nurturing curiosity, creativity, and well-being in every learner.”
Her boyfriend also paid tribute to Emily, saying: “I remember when I first met Em back she just stood out to me a bit.
“She had what her dad calls the Ems effect , which was just that lasting impression on everyone she met, always putting a smile on people’s faces.”
