Norway’s Sturla Holm Laegreid stunned Winter Olympic viewers as he admitted in his gold medal speech that he had cheated on his girlfriend as his confession went viral
Biathlete Emilien Jacquelin has vowed to exact revenge on Sturla Holm Laegreid following the Norwegian’s public confession of cheating on his girlfriend in a viral interview.
After securing his maiden bronze in the men’s 20km individual event, Laegreid used his post-race moment to openly acknowledge his affair in a desperate bid to reconcile with his former partner.
“There’s someone I wanted to share this with who might not be watching today,” he revealed. “Six months ago, I met the love of my life and the most beautiful and kindest person in the world.

“And three months ago I made my biggest mistake and cheated on her. I had a gold medal in my life. I only have eyes for her. I don’t know what I want to achieve by saying this. I wish I could share it with her.”
France’s Jacquelin, who narrowly missed out on a podium place by finishing just two-tenths behind Laegreid in fourth, didn’t hold back in his post-race comments. “I was beaten by an unfaithful guy,” he told VG Sport. “I will f*** him on Sunday, we’ll see.”
Laegreid’s former girlfriend has since responded through an anonymous statement to Norwegian publication VG. She revealed she ‘did not choose to be put in this position’.

“It’s hard to forgive – even after a declaration of love in front of the whole world,” she stated. “We have been in contact, and he is aware of how I feel about this.”
On Wednesday, Norway’s state broadcaster NRK released a statement from Laegreid in which he offered his apologies to both his former girlfriend and [Johan-Olav] Botn. “I deeply regret bringing up this personal story on what was a day of celebration for Norwegian biathlon,” Laegreid told NRK.
“I am not quite myself these days, and I am not thinking clearly.
“My apologies go to Johan-Olav, who deserved all the attention after winning gold. My apologies also go to my ex-girlfriend, who unwillingly ended up in the media spotlight. I hope she is doing well.
“I cannot change what has happened, but I will now put this behind me and focus on the Olympics. I will not be answering any further questions about this.”
