Wild second truck is ‘chased’ on the unsuitable aspect of the Bruce Highway earlier than lethal head-on smash
Confronting footage has emerged showing the terrifying moments before a man was killed and a truck driver was left fighting for life in a horror highway smash.
Police were called to Burpengary in Queensland‘s Moreton Bay region on Tuesday following reports multiple vehicles were travelling on the wrong side of the highway.
A white Isuzu truck travelling south in a northbound lane on the Bruce Highway crashed head-on into a Honda Accord, which burst into flames.
The Honda driver, a 26-year-old Redcliffe man, died at the scene.
The truck driver was rushed to hospital with significant head, neck and pelvic injuries, and remains in a life-threatening condition.
Police are investigating reports that the truck was being chased by two 4WDs also travelling on the wrong side of the highway before the collision.
Occupants of a passing southbound car filmed the truck as it travelled at a similar speed to their vehicle.
A woman was heard saying ‘that’s insane’ moments before a loud smash was heard, followed by a burst of flames appeared.

Other passing motorists recalled seeing the truck being chased before ‘driving straight into oncoming traffic’.
‘Nearly had a head-on with the truck driving the wrong way on the highway being chased by two white 4WDs that had worksite strobes on the top of the 4WDs,’ one woman wrote online.
Another added: ‘The truck had no lights on either. We were driving 110km/h, and we weren’t catching up to the truck, so we thought he was going 120km/h.’
A third witness said the confronting crash scene made him ‘feel sick to the stomach’.
All northbound lanes of the highway were closed for seven hours as crash investigators examined the crime scene.
Police inquiries are continuing.
