Sticky-fingered thief caught on CCTV stealing lots of of Cadbury Creme Eggs

Callum Little was responsible for nicking hundreds of Cadbury’s Creme Eggs over the course of five weeks across supermarkets across the North East of England before he was caught

A sticky-fingered thief has been jailed after being caught on CCTV stealing hundreds of Cadbury Creme Eggs. Callum Little, 27, went on a five-and-a-half week crime spree targeting shops and supermarkets across Gateshead, in Tyne and Wear.

He was captured during one raid, brazenly stealing a stand of Cadbury Creme Eggs from a petrol station shop. Footage shows him walking across the forecourt before grabbing the sweet treats, which were displayed by the door.

He can be seen sprinting away while spilling hundreds of chocolate eggs on the ground. He was caught by officers last Friday (February 13) and charged with 18 counts of shoplifting.

Little, of no fixed address, admitted all charges at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court and was jailed for 36 weeks. Between New Year and mid-February he stole sweets, meat, dairy products and other goods from shops in the Wrekenton, Low Fell and Beacon Lough areas of the city.

Sergeant Andrew Hyde, of Gateshead East Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “This is a fantastic result for our team. I’d also like to express my thanks to the businesses and members of the public who provided information about the reports so that we could progress our investigation.

“Shoplifting isn’t a victimless crime,” he continued. “It causes real financial pressure for local businesses and creates distress for the staff who have to deal with repeated incidents.

“Little is a prolific shoplifter and showed a clear pattern of offending over several weeks, and we are pleased that the courts have recognised the impact this had on our communities.”

It comes after a serial Greggs thief that staff nicknamed “Hamster” stole almost £2,000 worth of food from the same shop. But despite being caught pinching thousands of pounds worth of food some 38 times between December and February, Adam Gosling, 39, was able to swerve jail.

Prosecutors told Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (February 17) that Gosling’s six-week theft spree amounted to £1,817.50. The Metropolitan Police’s Greenford Broadway safer neighbourhood team said on its Met Engage platform that Greggs staff saw a high number of thefts at the branch and began to log each one.

Police identified Gosling through CCTV footage and arrested him on February 10 and the defendant, who the court heard is currently homeless, pleaded guilty to 38 counts of theft from a shop. Chairwoman of the magistrates bench Judy Gregg sentenced him to four months, but suspended for one year.
