Police concern rapist who lured lady to resort on promise of labor aiding injured sportsman earlier than assaulting her could have attacked others

A rapist who assaulted a woman after offering her a job helping an injured sportsman has been convicted – with police concerned he may be a prolific abuser.

Gurwinder Singh, 37, of Northolt in west London is facing a lengthy jail sentence after being found guilty of rape, attempted rape, assault by penetration, two counts of sexual assault and one count of common assault.

He lured his victim to a hotel in Paddington in June last year on the promise of work as an assistant to an injured sportsman.

Singh pretended to be a woman during WhatsApp messages to gain his victim’s trust, then said he was a fellow care professional when they met up at the hotel to discuss working arrangements and identification documents.

The sexual predator left her to wait in a room for her potential client to arrive but returned and said he was the ‘sportsman’, undressed himself and demanded a massage – which she refused.

He then raped the woman, who cannot be identified. She fled the room and two members of the public came to her aid.

Chillingly, Singh sought to buy her silence by telling her the whole thing had been recorded, and he would publish the footage making it ‘go viral’ if she reported the incident to police, Scotland Yard said.

But the woman contacted Met Police detectives the next day, leading to Singh’s arrest and subsequent conviction at Southwark Crown Court this week.

Police believe rapist Gurwinder Singh, 37, may have sexually assaulted many other women - and have urged them to come forward

Police believe rapist Gurwinder Singh, 37, may have sexually assaulted many other women – and have urged them to come forward

Detectives now believe Singh may have raped other women before, and have urged anyone who had contact with him in the past to come forward.

Detective Constable Lydia Webb, who led the investigation for the Met, said: ‘The victim in this case has shown incredible courage in coming forward and disclosing what happened to her – it is thanks to her bravery that Singh has been convicted and is unable to cause further harm.

‘We believe that there may be other women who have been subject to Singh’s crimes and we want to provide reassurance that any reports will be fully investigated and dealt with sensitively and with compassion.

‘We recognise that coming forward can be a daunting experience, but would encourage victim-survivors to speak with us so they can get the support and help they very much deserve.

‘All victims of sexual assault are given anonymity for life.’

Painstaking investigative work since his arrest has shown that Singh booked rooms at the same hotel on more than 100 occasions between December 2024 and August 2025.

He also had conversations with many other women pretending he could help them find work.

Officers are working to speak to those who have had contact with Singh on WhatsApp, but are also appealing for others to come forward following Singh’s conviction.

They are particularly keen to hear from women in the Indian community who live in the Hayes or Southall area, as they believe he may have targeted a specific community.

However, detectives are keeping an open mind and are appealing to anyone who may have met or spoken to Singh online, or anyone who has any information about his offending.

Singh will be sentenced at the same court on April 15.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 with reference number 3916/16FEB26.
