Zoe Atkin secures Winter Olympics medal for Team GB to match sister’s achievement
Zoe Atkin secured Britain’s first ever freeski halfpipe medal with bronze on Sunday as Eileen Gu defended her Olympic gold with a stunning 94.75 performance
Zoe Atkin claimed bronze in the women’s halfpipe final on Sunday as Eileen Gu defended her gold medal at the Winter Olympics with a 94.75. China’s Li Fanghui finished just 0.5 points above Atkin to claim silver.
Atkin topped the leaderboard with 90.50 in the first run, before recording a DNF in the second after taking a tumble. Her spectacular third run narrowly missed breaking up the Chinese duo at the summit of the podium.
The bronze represents Britain’s maiden freeski halfpipe medal. Nevertheless, China’s Li and Gu maintained their supremacy in the discipline with two outstanding displays, reports the Express.

Atkin emulates her sister, Izzy, in claiming an Olympic bronze medal. Eight years ago, she secured a podium place in the women’s slopestyle.
Atkin’s third run commenced with a massive leap over the camera, not for the first time, which stood as the largest of the final at 5m. She concluded with a substantial switch nine and missed out on silver by merely 0.5.
The bronze means Team GB have now secured one medal of each colour at this year’s Games. The curling squad came agonisingly close to claiming gold in last night’s men’s final, falling to Canada.
