World Economic Forum chief exec Borge Brende steps down over Epstein hyperlinks

The boss of the World Economic Forum (WEF) has quit the organisation over his links with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Borge Brende has stepped down as president and chief executive after more than eight years in the role, just a day after Larry Summers, a regular at the WEF in Davos and US Treasury Secretary under Bill Clinton, resigned from Harvard University over his ties to Epstein.

The WEF launched an inquiry after Brende acknowledged that he had dined with Epstein on three occasions in 2018 and 2019.

Recently published documents also showed texts and emails between the two men.

Brende, a former Norwegian foreign minister, claims that he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes when they met and communicated.

In a statement he said: ‘I believe now is the right moment for the forum to continue its important work without distractions.’
