Amazon cuts shock price of ‘glorious’ Kindle for one purpose as readers ‘improve’
The Amazon Kindle is available with money off in a limited-time deal
Amazon shoppers have spotted a surprise price drop on one of its most popular devices, as the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite sees its cost cut amid a wave of readers choosing to upgrade. The ‘excellent’ e-reader is now down to £99.99 from £143.99 on Amazon, saving buyers 31% in the limited-time deal.
The main reasons, because it’s refurbished. Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is designed to deliver a smooth reading experience, featuring a next-generation 7-inch display with a higher contrast ratio and 25% faster page turns, according to the description.
Its ultra-thin design makes it easy to carry, while the larger glare-free screen ensures text stays sharp whether users are reading at home or on the go. Built with simplicity in mind, the device is free from social media, notifications and other distractions, allowing users to fully escape into their books.

The adjustable display lets buyers switch from white to amber lighting, so they can comfortably read in bright sunlight or in the dark. It’s also waterproof, meaning it can safely be used by the pool, in the bath or outdoors.
Another option is the Apple 11” iPad for £329 from Currys. This comes in four different colours – pink, blue, silver and yellow – and has 128GB of storage as well as a battery life of up to 10 hours.

Argos also sells the rival ereader, the Kobo Clara BW 16GB Wi-Fi for £129.99. This one has a 6-inch e-ink cartouch screen, 50 adjustable font sizes and a charge time of two hours, the listing says.
The Amazon Kindle has a 4.7 out of five-star rating from more than 1,000 reviews, however. One person said: “Excellent upgrade. Bought to upgrade my older Kindle, which still works but has battery issues. The upgrades in this Kindle are fantastic. I love how customisable it is, from the different light modes to reading style. It’s still really lightweight but feels durable. The screen is so responsive. Really happy with the purchase.”
Another added: “Wanted to get back into reading. The screen is brilliant with adjustable brightness and contrast. I haven’t tried it in sunlight yet, due to the bad weather, but at night it is so clear and easy on the eyes. I don’t have to turn the light on, which might wake my wife, either.”
A third person said: “An excellent improvement on my earlier Kindle Paperwhite: larger screen, faster, more user-friendly with lots of available information about personal library, author sets, etc.”
Some people disagreed, however, as one said: “Perfect condition and appears to work well, but occasionally seems to reboot itself. Can’t work out if that’s me or the device at the moment.”
Another added: “Bought this as a replacement for my Kindle Oasis, which can’t hold a charge. Easily readable, weight is alright. Page turns fast. Only things I really miss are physical page buttons, and the ability to turn the reader upside down and have the text follow.”
