How low can Gwyneth go? Star has caught to the identical plunging clothes for 30 years – and her V necks are getting much more daring in her 50s

She’s been attending red carpet events like the Oscars, the Met Gala and the Golden Globes for more than 30 years – and there appears to be one fashion formula Gwyneth Paltrow prefers to stick to for these A-lister events.

The American actress-turned-wellness guru, 53, made her first appearance at the Actor Awards in 26 years on Sunday night in LA.

Gwyneth turned heads in a plunging black lace Givenchy gown paired with 1930s Belperron turquoise earrings.

For her appearance, the Iron Man star once again relied on her trusty go-to number of a deep V-neckline, often teamed with a cinched waistline and no sleeves.

It’s an attention-grabbing look that Gwyneth has perfected over the years – from wearing a plunging red velvet Tom Ford suit for the 1996 VMAs to collecting her Academy Award in a voluminous V-neck pink Ralph Lauren gown in 1999.

Stylist to the stars, Lisa Talbot, told The Daily Mail that when a celebrity finds a flattering silhouette that works for them, it becomes part of their ‘personal brand’.

‘Red carpet dressing isn’t just about fashion; it’s about recognition. Stylists and public figures understand the power of visual consistency,’ she explained.

The fashion expert noted how a plunging V neck works ‘exceptionally well’ for Gwyneth because she has ‘a naturally tall, lean frame with strong shoulders and elegant proportions’.

‘A deep V-neckline draws the eye vertically, enhancing that length even further and creating a refined, statuesque effect. It adds subtle sensuality without tipping into excess, something that aligns perfectly with her polished, understated aesthetic,’ said Lisa.

The stylist also suggested that Gwyneth is relying on the fashion formula because she feels confident in it.

‘There’s a psychological element. When you know a shape works, you stand differently in it,’ said the expert. ‘Confidence translates on the red carpet.

‘Celebrities are photographed from every conceivable angle, and award season is high pressure. Sticking to a trusted silhouette reduces risk and allows the focus to remain on presence rather than outfit anxiety.’

Lisa continued: ‘Over the years, Gwyneth has created a very clear and consistent red-carpet identity.

‘While trends have shifted dramatically over the past 27 years, from minimalist 90s slip dresses to sculptural couture, her formula has remained surprisingly focused: a plunging V-neckline, a defined waist, and clean, elongated lines.

‘There’s a reason for that… In many ways, Paltrow’s consistency reflects her wider style philosophy, clean, intentional, and quietly powerful.

‘It’s a reminder that great style isn’t about constant reinvention. Sometimes it’s about refining what already works and making it unmistakably yours.’

Lisa also noted how the cinched waist that Gwyneth often opts for on her dresses is ‘equally strategic’.

‘It introduces structure and femininity, ensuring that minimalist gowns don’t overwhelm her frame,’ said the stylist.

‘On someone with her proportions, this balance between softness and tailoring feels effortless rather than contrived.’

However, whilst Gwyneth stuck to her fashion formula on Sunday night, she still suffered an awkward wardrobe malfunction during her appearance.

The actress took to the stage with one of her earrings missing as she joined her Marty Supreme co-stars presenting an award.

Earlier in the night she was seen wearing the jewellery which was a pair of 1930s Belperron turquoise earrings – but while she was on stage later in the night her accessories were missing from the ensemble.

Gwyneth later posed with her Marty Supreme co-star Odessa A’zion where the earring was also visibly missing.

The actress herself has yet to comment on the wardrobe malfunction but it certainly didn’t stop her from commanding attention in her stunning look on the night.
