Donald Trump tells Starmer tips on how to repair Britain with ‘two quite simple issues’

As Keir Starmer’s Labour party struggles in the polls, the US President has presented the Prime Minister with two pieces of advice to turn the country around

Donald Trump has offered Keir Starmer advice on fixing the UK after the US President lamented the decline of the “special relationship”. The two leaders are having a spat after Starmer refused to immediately support the US in their shock attack on Iran.

The Middle East was cast into chaos after the US-Israeli airstrike on Tehran killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday morning. In retaliation, Iran has been firing missiles at US-aligned targets in Dubai, Israel, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.

Despite Starmer handing US forces permission to use UK military bases for “defensive” operations on Sunday evening, Trump’s fury with the UK did not waver. In an interview with the Sun, he called Starmer “unhelpful” and said the US-UK relationship was not “like it used to be”, branding the development “very sad”.

Trump also offered advice to Starmer on a number of issues as Labour continues to tank in the polls. He said: “Two very simple things. Open up the North Sea. Immediately. Your energy prices are through the roof.

“And stop people from coming in from foreign lands who hate you. Open up the North Sea and stop people from pouring into his country from faraway lands.”

After the US President lamented the decline of the “special relationship”, he heaped praise on other European countries. “This was the most solid relationship of all,” Trump said. “And now we have very strong relationships with other countries in Europe.”

“I never thought I’d see that. I never thought I’d see that from the UK. We love the UK.”

Trump was also critical of the UK’s immigration policies, saying: “It’s also not such a recognisable country. I mean, you look at what happened over the last period of time and it’s very different.

“London is a very different place, with a terrible Mayor. You have a terrible Mayor there, some terrible people. But it’s a very different place.”
