What you need to know as the UK issues travel warnings

  • The Foreign Office has issued travel warnings for 76 countries as Middle East tensions escalate.
  • Officials are constantly updating the list of nations UK tourists should avoid, with 226 countries having travel advice pages. The warnings affect popular holiday destinations including Thailand and the UAE, where Brits love Dubai breaks.
  • PM Sir Keir Starmer has tried to reassure the public amid growing conflict in the region. He said: “I know the situation in the Middle East is worrying for British people in the region, and at home.” He said the UK won’t join US and Israeli strikes on Iran but will allow British bases to be used defensively.
  • The FCDO advises against all travel to 15 countries including Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Russia, Syria and Yemen.
  • Another 38 nations have partial no-go zones, while six countries including UAE and Qatar face “all but essential travel” warnings
