NFL star is axed by his staff simply 12 months after profitable the Super Bowl in beautiful fall from grace

The Chargers are reportedly releasing Super Bowl winner Mekhi Becton.

The veteran guard – nicknamed ‘Big Ticket’ – moved to Los Angeles after helping the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX last February.

But now, according to ESPN, Becton – who started 14 games for the Chargers last season – is being released.

The move will reportedly save Los Angeles $9.7million in salary cap space, which can now be used on reinforcements for the 2026 season.

Becton, who is 6ft 7ins and weighs 363lbs, was drafted 11th overall by the New York Jets back in 2020 after playing college football for Louisville.

He has gone on to start 59 games in the NFL but the 26-year-old is now looking for his third team in as many seasons.

Becton left the Jets after 2023 campaign before joining the Philadelphia Eagles in April 2024 on a one-year deal.

The guard started 19 games across the regular and postseason, including Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans.
