Joey Barton remanded in custody after first court docket look over golf membership assault

Joey Barton has been remanded in custody after first court appearance after a man was attacked near Huyton and Prescot Golf Club.

Emergency services were called to Fairway to reports a man had been assaulted near to the club at around 9pm on Sunday (March 8).

Merseyside Police named Barton 43, and Gary O’Grady, 50, in a statement released earlier today. They have both been charged with Section 18 wounding with intent.

However, during the court appearance today, the CPS asked for the charge to be amended from section 18 wounding with intent to assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

The alleged victim has been officially named in court papers as ex-football manger Kevin Lynch.

Barton was seen in court sporting greying dark hair and stubble, while weaning a fleece and glasses during his appearance at Liverpool magistrates

District Judge James Hatton addresses the two defendants.

He said: “You are both charged with an indictable only offence which needs to be sent to the crown court.”

The judge says they will next appear on April 7 at 10am.
