School caretaker secretly filmed teenage women getting modified after PE lesson
Joshua Snow used his mobile phone to film three teenage girls changing after a PE lesson at The West Bridgford School in 2023, with a fourth girl recorded two years earlier
A school caretaker has been jailed for secretly filming three underage girls getting changed following a PE lesson at a school. Nottingham Crown Court heard Joshua Snow placed his mobile phone above a door which the three teenagers spotted as he recorded from a corridor only accessible to staff members.
Following the victims’ reports, the headteacher of West Bridgford School identified the 28-year-old on CCTV, and his phone was seized and analysed, uncovering another recording from two years prior involving a fourth teenager.
However, the defendant, from Radcliffe-on-Trent, claimed he gained no sexual pleasure from the acts. Judge Michael Auty KC dismissed this claim whilst handing Snow a nine-month prison sentence, reports Nottinghamshire Live.
In a victim impact statement, one of the girls, who showed remarkable bravery by delivering it personally in court, said: “School for me was a place of safety. I feel violated and I am shocked that an adult male in a position of trust working at the school would do this.
“I feel angry that there may be other photographs and I would like to ask Joshua Snow why did he think it was okay to take photos of me getting changed?”His actions have been a complete breach of trust.”
Denney Lau, prosecuting, told the court the three remaining victims were in the changing rooms when they noticed a mobile phone being held above a door after their PE class at the school in Loughborough Road. He confirmed they reported the incident, prompting an investigation during which Snow was interviewed.
The prosecutor stated: “He denied being responsible saying it might have been a radio he was throwing into the air as he was in the corridor.
“The police took his phone and the image had been deleted and moved from the recycling bin but was found in the cache system.
“Further examination found the earlier image of the fourth victim.”
The defendant of Bemrose Drive, Radcliffe-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to two charges of voyeurism, having filmed the victims during a private act. All the girls are granted lifelong anonymity as victims of sexual crimes committed against them.
Mr Lau then read out three further impact statements. Each statement expressed how the girls regarded the school as a safe space where they should have been protected.
Handing down the sentence, Judge Auty said: “Children are society’s most precious asset and they are, by their very nature, incredibly fragile. The offences and your behaviour continue to be devastating for them and you demonstrably breached the most fundamental right to privacy.
“The probation service assesses you as someone who presents a low risk of reoffending but I am a little sceptical of that bearing in mind your complete failure to acknowledge your motivation for what you have done.”
In addition to the prison term, the judge instructed Snow to register as a sex offender for 10 years and issued a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. The West Bridgford School has previously confirmed that the defendant is no longer employed at the institution or with the East Midlands Education Trust which runs it.
Following the sentencing, the school stated: “Throughout, our focus has been to support the young people who were involved, and their families. Now that the judicial process has been completed, we hope it will provide those students with a sense of closure and allow them to move on.
“Safeguarding our school community remains our fundamental priority.”
