ITV pressured to apologise as Ed Chamberlin calls background individuals ‘idiots’

ITV presenter Ed Chamberlin was forced to apologise during Cheltenham Festival Gold Cup coverage after swearing and gestures were picked up in the background

ITV’s main presenter Ed Chamberlin was compelled to issue an apology after some profanity was heard during the background of Cheltenham Festival coverage on Gold Cup day.

After some colourful language and a few gestures behind Oli Bell’s interview with Paul from Preston, Tuesday’s ITV7 winner, Chamberlin stepped in to apologise when coverage cut back to the primary desk.

He stated: “It could be a long afternoon for you as well Oli. Apologies if you picked up any language there, there was one gesture as well. You can’t keep away the idiots sometimes on live television.”

Attention quickly shifted back to the forthcoming hours of horse racing with the JCB Triumph Hurdle launching day four at Cheltenham Festival at 1:20pm, reports the Mirror.

The marquee race of the day arrives just hours later with an extremely competitive Gold Cup field featuring The Jukebox Man, Gaelic Warrior, Jango Baie and reigning champion inothewayurthinkin all possessing genuine chances.

Spillane’s Tower is a non-runner in that contest due to ground conditions with Diva Luna also withdrawing from the 2:40 Mares’ Chase.

The Jukebox Man is probably attracting backing from most football enthusiasts as it belongs to ex-Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp.

Iconic Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has witnessed L’Eau du Sud and Regents Stroll finish placed to help the racing syndicate he belongs to secure substantial prize money.

Il Ridoto and Kim Muir struggled to finish strongly earlier in the week, but Maestro Conti managed to secure second place and deliver more tax-free winnings to Sir Alex and his team.

50/1 outsider Apolon De Charnie, trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by his son Patrick Mullins, went on to claim victory in the 1:20 race, just edging out favourite Minella Study.

“I got a dream run. I am very proud of my father, I have never seen him doubt himself as much as he has this winner.”
