Emmanuel Macron stands as much as ‘inelegant’ Trump for mocking him over his marriage

French President Emmanuel Macron slammed Donald Trump for mocking him at a lunch in Washington. The US President claimed Macron’s wife Brigitte ‘treats him extremely badly’

Emmanuel Macron has slammed Donald Trump for putting on an accent and mocking France’s President and his wife. The US President, still bitter about European nations not backing his Iran war, stunned guests at a lunch in Washington with his outburst over Macron and his wife Brigitte.

He said: “I call up France, Macron – whose wife treats him extremely badly. Still recovering from the right to the jaw”, referencing a 2025 video that appeared to show Brigitte pushing her hubby’s face.

Trump added: “And I said, Emmanuel, we’d love to have some help in the Gulf even though we’re setting records on knocking out bad people and knocking out ballistic missiles.

“We’d love to have some help. If you could, could you please send ships immediately.”

Trump then appeared to try a cringey French accent to give Macron’s alleged answer: “‘No, no, no, we cannot do that, Donald. We can do that after the war is won’.

“I said, ‘no no, I don’t need after the war is won, Emmanuel’.” He added: “We didn’t need them, but I asked anyway.”

Mr Macron hit back today (April 2) and said Trump’s outburst about his marriage were “neither elegant nor up to standard”. He added: “So I am not going to respond to them – they do not merit a response.”

It comes after the ex-Apprentice host ranted that countries relying on the Strait of Hormuz shipping lane for oil should “build up some delayed courage” and “just grab it”. And the US leader threatened to blitz Iran “back to the stone ages where they belong” in the coming weeks.

In his address to the nation, he said: “The countries of the world that do receive oil through the Hormuz strait must take care of that passage. They must cherish it. They must grab it and cherish it. They can do it easily.

“We will be helpful, but they should take the lead in protecting the oil that they so desperately depend on. So to those countries that can’t get fuel, many of which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, we had to do it ourselves.”

The war has seen motorists suffer soaring fuel prices across the globe. But Trump again bragged America didn’t need the oil going through the Strait of Hormuz.

He boasted: “Number one, buy oil from the United States of America. We have plenty. We have so much, and number two, build up some delayed courage. Should have done it before.

“Should have done it with us as we asked, go to the strait and just take it, protect it, use it for yourselves.”
