Go Wong to be proper at Newcastle – Jason Heavey’s Good Friday horse racing ideas

The Daily Star’s Chief Tipster Jason Heavey reckons David O’Meara’s improver can land a hat-trick at Newcastle on Good Friday

BE on the right horse in the final race of the all-weather season by backing MAO SHANG WONG (5.00) at Lingfield on Good Friday.

After an underwhelming start to the season, things have really started to click for the four-year-old trained by David O’Meara.

Two outings ago, the son of Too Darn Hot shed his maiden tag at Newcastle.

And last Saturday, he transferred his winning ways to turf on Doncaster’s Lincoln card.

He steps up two furlongs to a mile and a half but with Conor Whiteley on board, just as he was at Town Moor, he looks primed to land a hat-trick in the Midnite All-Weather Vase Apprentice Handicap.

At Newcastle, the learned choice looks like being CHANCELLOR (3.00) in the the BetMGM All-Weather Championships Mile Handicap.

The one-time Classic hope, trained in tandem by John and Thady Gosden, is tipped to defy top weight.

The son of Kingman won twice as a two-year-old a couple of seasons ago, but burst through the stalls when well fancied for Doncaster’s Champagne Stakes, and his attitude was again questioned after his first couple of starts at three, leading to him being gelded and undergoing wind surgery.

He has looked far more manageable since returning on the all-weather this winter, winning twice and finishing second twice, most recently filling the runner-up spot behind Sky Safari over a mile and a quarter in the Winter Derby.

Coming back to a stiff mile will suit , while the application of cheekpieces could also boost his chances.

Having made a flying start to the turf season by completing the Lincoln-Spring Mile double at Doncaster last weekend, Jack Channon will have high hopes for SARAB STAR (3.35) in the Midnite All-Weather Sprint Handicap.

The four-year-old has already built up a good strike rate in his short career, recording a third success when making all in handicap at Wolverhampton in November.

He found only a well-treated course specialist at the top of his game too good at Kempton on most recent outing and catches the eye here returning to a sprint trip.

In the finale in the North East, the Midnite All-Weather Easter Plate Marathon Handicap, take a look at DRAMATIC STAR (4.42)

The trainee of William Haggas went like the best horse at the weights on his only previous attempt at two miles at Kempton last year.

And, with his recent run behind him, he could be ready to get back to winning ways.
