‘The £14 Dunelm gingham set is the one spring bedding I’m shopping for this 12 months’

For anyone looking to brighten up a bedroom for spring without spending a fortune, Dunelm might have the answer

There is nothing quite like the feeling of slipping into fresh, crisp bedsheets after a long day and a warm evening shower. It is one of those simple luxuries that instantly makes drifting off feel easier. However, finding high-quality bedding that doesn’t cost a fortune can be a challenge.

Recently, shopping writer Eve Rowland has added a few Dunelm sets into her rotation, and they have been transformative for both her sleep and my space. She said: “While I usually stick to bright whites or ivory (my bedroom is already a bold mix of oranges and greens), I decided to branch out.

“I fell in love with a gingham print on the Dunelm website, and it has given my room a completely new personality. It feels fresh, intentional, and perfectly timed for a spring bedroom refresh.”

With a more cottage-core vibe than simple elegance, the Portloe Woven Gingham 100% Cotton Bedding Set costs £30 for a single, £36 for a double size and up to £50 for a super king. It also comes in a range of colours from blue and blush pink to mulberry red and moss green (the latter of which Eve has).

As the name suggests, it’s made from 100% cotton, which gives it a lovely, breathable weight that is both cosy and light, making it ideal for a range of temperatures. Plus, the duvet set has an expensive aesthetic with a linen-look and, post-wash, a lovely seersucker style.

The Portloe Woven Gingham 100% Cotton Duvet Cover & Pillowcase Set from Dunelm comes in eight different colours.

With the checkered pattern being pretty bold, some people may prefer this Livia Wide Printed Stripe Set (£32) from Dusk. With its wide-stripe pattern, this set hits the sweet spot between laid-back lounging and a refined, bedroom aesthetic.

And for those who prefer super-vibrant bedding, Marks and Spencer sells this standout Pure Cotton Striped Ruffle Bedding Set (£25- £55). It comes in a playful pink-and-red hue with ruffled edges.

Echoing Eve’s love, shoppers have given the set a 4.5-star rating, with one person saying: “Beautifully soft cotton fabric, washes well with no ironing needed. Great price, good quality.”

The ‘no-iron’ claim holds up well, but for the neatest look, Eve recommends a quick steam after tumble drying. While they aren’t high-maintenance, a little extra attention ensures the spring refresh really pops.

Another remarked: “I never leave reviews, but I am so impressed with the quality that I’ve sworn I’m only buying Dunelm 100% cotton bedding from now on! They’re so soft and breathable, and I feel better knowing I’m sleeping in with all-natural sheets next to my skin instead of plastic blend.”

Some people have shared, however, how they were left disappointed that the blue shade didn’t quite match their expectation, with one person leaving a three-star review, which read: “A bit disappointed with the colour. I thought it was going to be light blue, but it’s more of a grey blue.”

On a more positive note, this Dunelm fan piped up: “I absolutely love this bedding! The butter yellow is gorgeous, and the cotton is soft with the slightly rumpled look of seersucker. I also have the set in Iris – a pale mauve – and both look beautiful in my light blue bedroom.

“It’s the best bedding I have ever had for softness and sheer snuggle-down comfort, and I’m planning to get another set for the spare room, green or blue, or maybe both.”
