Woman, 31, slammed by on-line trolls for facelift to banish ‘flabby double chin’

Scarlet Johnson, 31, decided to take action after her ‘flabby double chin’ left her feeling insecure. Using a friend’s money, she paid £17,500 for a facelift which drew negative online comments

A mum who had a £17,000 facelift at 31 to banish her “flabby double chin” after losing weight says she finally looks her age – despite people insisting she was “too young” for surgery. Scarlet Johnson went under the knife last month after losing seven stone and years of feeling insecure about her appearance.

The 31-year-old made the decision to have cosmetic surgery after losing more than nearly half her body weight in the last four years – dropping from 20 stone to 12 stone and shrinking four dress sizes. Despite her transformation, the mum-of-one said she looked ‘deflated’ after her weight-loss, and feared her double chin looked “even flabbier” than before.

Scarlet began researching surgeons to help rejuvenate her face and decided to book in for a full face and neck lift after she was given money from a family friend. Scarlet paid £17,500 for the operation on February 19 and now believes she finally looks ‘youthful’ again after her gruelling eight-hour surgery.

After sharing her cosmetic journey online, the mum faced backlash about her age, with many claiming she was too young for the op, but insists it was a “mentally sound decision” for herself. Scarlet, who lives on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, said: “It’s something that I thought about for quite a long time.

“I lost 80 to 100lbs naturally. I had a really big double chin when I was at my biggest, the skin in that area is pretty thin so it never snapped back at all.

“I gained a lot of weight during Covid then got pregnant. After I lost the weight, everything was just so deflated that I honestly felt like I was better before… when everything was plump, full and youthful.

“My double chin was a major insecurity even before I lost weight. After I lost weight, it didn’t go anywhere, it just got flabbier. It was almost a lifetime of thinking about this, I hated side profile pictures.

“I tried a lot to accept myself no matter what but I was always aware of it.”

After shedding seven stone, Scarlet believed she looked ’10 years older’ than her actual age and decided to undergo a face and neck lift with fat transfer last month.

Scarlet said: “I thought I looked way older than my actual age. No one said anything to me but I felt I looked 10 years older than I was.

“I don’t want my daughter to ever feel like she has to surgically change her looks. I didn’t want to necessarily set that example. It is a personal decision and she will know the reasons leading up to it, it wasn’t just me wanting to look good.

“There were no complications at all [after the surgery]. Every day I look more like myself. I feel like I now look my age and have a second opportunity to live the life I want to live. I already have so much more confidence.

“It changed my perception of my whole body. My best friend even said I look like a movie star now.”

After sharing her facelift online, Scarlet has divided opinion on the ethics of undergoing cosmetic surgery so young. One person wrote: “31 is way too young to need a facelift. I am 43 and my surgeon would never! You got robbed!”

Another commented: “Why do this so young?” However others were supportive of her choice, whatever her age.

One wrote: “Looks amazing! Don’t let anyone make you feel bad or wrong for doing this at 31! You look youthful and natural. I’m jealous.”

A fourth commented “Congratulations, you look amazing.”

Scarlet said: “I find the backlash funny because people are so judgmental. I understand the shock but for my situation it did make sense, it was a very mentally sound decision for me.

“The face and neck is your first picture of somebody so having it look youthful again feels huge for me. I’ll be really healed by summer when I can reveal my new self. I want to go to the beach and feel really confident.

“I do think ageing is beautiful, it was ageing so fast so early that was the issue for me. I think [cosmetic surgery] is so dependent on the person. If it’s something you’ve put a lot of thought and research into, you shouldn’t let anyone tell you not to.”
