Police give main Woolwich homicide investigation replace after boy, 14, shot useless

Police invetigating the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy have issued a significant update. Eghosa Ogbebor was gunned down in Lord Warwick Street, Woolwich on April 2.

An investigation was launched after police were called at 3.40pm to find the teenager with serious injuries. He sadly died at the scene. A murder investigation remains ongoing and on Saturday, April 4, officers arrested two people in Woolwich on suspicion of murder.

The 16-year-old boy and 19-year-old man remain in custody. A 46-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remains in custody. Two boys, aged 14 and 16 and an 18-year-old man, who were arrested on Friday, 3 April in connection with Eghosa’s death have since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

The shooting occurred in broad daylight on a residential street less than 500 metres from the Woolwich Ferry and a short stroll from Woolwich Dockyard train station.

Met Police Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, whose team is leading the investigation, said: “Our team of dedicated detectives are continuing enquiries to investigate Eghosa’s tragic death.

“Residents in Woolwich may have noticed a large amount of police activity last night, as officers arrested three further people in connection with the investigation.

“We appreciate the concern that Eghosa’s death has caused, particularly among the local community who will continue to see an increased police presence around the area.“There may be people who have heard information or witnessed suspicious activity in the area but not yet contacted police. We urge these people to contact us and assist with the investigation.

“We will continue to support and update Eghosa’s family as the investigation continues and our thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time.”

An air ambulance and Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were also sent to the location. A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 15:48 today (Thursday, 2 April) to reports of a shooting in Greenwich (SE18).

“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic practitioner, our Hazardous Area Response Team and deployed London’s Air Ambulance. Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
