Heartbroken Dodgers star Miguel Rojas broadcasts sudden demise of his father in devastating social media put up
Los Angeles Dodgers star Miguel Rojas has announced the sudden death of his father in an emotional Instagram post.
The Venezuelan shortstop, 37, was scratched shortly before the first pitch of the Dodgers’ win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday to attend to a family matter.
In the statement, the two-time World Series champion wrote in Spanish on Wednesday: ‘With immense sorrow on behalf of the entire Rojas family, I must share with all those who had the privilege of knowing and spending time with my father, Miguel Rojas – known as “Micky” – that he passed away suddenly yesterday afternoon, April 7th.
‘I wish to offer my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has reached out to me and my family to express their affection and let us know just how deeply loved my father was throughout his life. May God welcome him into His glory, and may he rest in peace.’
Rojas shared a number of pictures of his father along with the post and wrote alongside a picture of his father with his son: ‘You left, Dad, and what hurts the most is that I couldn’t say goodbye.’
Rojas was still with the Dodgers in Toronto on Tuesday night but manager Dave Roberts has said he could be leaving on Wednesday to be with his family.

The Dodgers are due to play Toronto again on Wednesday but will have to call up another player from the minor leagues to replace Rojas.
It remains to be seen whether or not he will be available for their next series against the Texas Rangers, which begins Friday.
Rojas, who also played for the Miami Marlins, re-signed for the Dodgers in 2023 and has been crucial to their back-to-back World Series victories in the past two seasons.
Last year, he became the first player in MLB history to hit a game-tying home run in the 9th inning or later of a World Series Game 7 to hand the Dodgers victory over the Blue Jays.
When the Dodgers re-signed Rojas to a one-year, $5.5million contract back in December, he announced this would be his final season as a player.
However, Rojas also announced he will be staying with the Dodgers in a front office role after the season has concluded.
