Baby, 1 , overwhelmed and burned to dying by stepdad who tried to revive him with fish shocker
A mother and her partner have been arrested on suspicion of abusing an 18‑month‑old to death after police alleged the stepfather punched the toddler unconscious
A mother and her partner have been arrested on suspicion of abusing a one-year-old to death. Police reportedly allege the stepfather punched the baby in the forehead, knocking the child unconscious, before using an electric fish stunner in a claimed attempt to “revive” them.
The horrific mistreatment unfolded while the mum allegedly watched and failed to intervene. Police took 30-year-old Ms Saowaros (“Jiab”) and 38-year-old Mr Surasak, the child’s biological mother and stepfather, for further questioning over the death of “Nong Kluay Khai” (a pseudonym), aged 18 months, in the Ratchaburi Province, Thailand.
Doctors reportedly said the toddler died from blunt-force head trauma, caused by an impact with a hard object.
Investigators also noted bruising and burn marks on the child’s back and buttocks, fuelling suspicions of abuse. During questioning, Surasak, the stepfather, allegedly admitted abusing the toddler for more than two months.
He allegedly stubbed out cigarettes on the child and beat them because he was irritated by the crying, Work Point News reported. Police say that on April6, he became enraged again, slapped and punched the child in the forehead until the toddler lost consciousness, then panicked and used an electric fish stunner on the child, claiming he was trying to bring them round.
The child reportedly began bleeding from the mouth and nose and later died in hospital. Jiab, the child’s mother, reportedly gave conflicting accounts and admitted she had recently taken drugs.
She reportedly claimed she had previously seen her partner abuse the toddler and had tried to stop him, but officers allege that on the day of the incident she sat and watched without stepping in. Police also said she did not come forward to collect her daughter’s body for religious rites, with the child’s grandmother instead taking the remains in distress.
A volunteer with the Sawang Ratchaburi rescue team, who carried out an initial examination and prepared the body, said the injuries were “heartbreaking”, describing widespread bruising, burn marks on the buttocks and abnormalities around the anus.
The volunteer said the treatment of the child was “beyond what a human should do”.
Police have arrested the pair on suspicion of joint intentional murder and drug use and handed them over to investigators.
Reports said furious locals later tried to confront the suspects as officers took them for a urine test, forcing police to step in to prevent violence.
