Horror as lady, 21, dies after being thrown off fairground trip because it flies off tracks

Carolina Beatriz de Deus Maciel, a promising talent in Brazil’s gospel music scene, died after a caterpillar fairground ride collapsed and plunged to the ground in Itabirito

A woman died from severe head injuries after a fairground ride collapsed. Carolina Beatriz de Deus Maciel was catapulted from the ride when a section of track came loose, causing her carriage to plummet to the ground.

The 21-year-old gospel singer was on the Caterpillar ride, a small family-friendly attraction, at the time of the devastating incident. The up-and-coming star sustained fatal injuries when the carriage derailed at the Minas Center Park, a travelling fair visiting the city of Itabirito, Brazil, at the time.

Local fire services confirmed that the young performer sadly succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday night (11 Apr).

Three other riders were injured in the collapse and were swiftly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Civil Police have initiated an investigation to establish the precise cause of the mechanical failure.

Two men, aged 45 and 24, have already been arrested by police as part of the ongoing probe into potential negligence or manslaughter.

In a statement, the organisers expressed: “The company deeply regrets what happened and expresses its solidarity with the victim’s family and close friends.

“We are cooperating fully with the competent authorities to clarify the circumstances.”

The park has since been closed and was seen being dismantled by workers the following morning, as reported by NeedToKnow. Beatriz was recognised as a promising talent within Brazil’s thriving gospel music scene.

She described herself as a musician “set apart for God”.

Her unexpected passing has triggered a wave of sorrow among her fans and the close-knit community of Itabirito.

She was laid to rest in her hometown on Sunday afternoon.

The investigation continues.
