Carol Vorderman dealing with ‘1000’s’ of risk however feels ‘extra highly effective than ever’

The defiant former Countdown numbercruncher is refusing to stay silent despite being on the receiving end of hate

Telly star Carol Vorderman has revealed she has faced down “thousands” of threats for being outspoken.

But the defiant former Countdown number cruncher is refusing to stay silent despite being on the receiving end of hate.

Carol, 65, said: “I’ve lost count of the number of threats I’ve had because I speak out, but it’s definitely thousands. However, I feel more powerful than ever.

“And I will stand up for myself and other people without compunction, but 20 years ago, I would probably have worried what my bosses thought.

“To date, I’m the only person to have been sacked by the BBC twice. Strong opinions should not, in my opinion, be closed down, and so I carry on.

“I believe we’re in a dangerous time when I think people who can speak out, should speak out.

“I feel like I’ve got a responsibility to do so, especially as a woman who wants equality for women and is scared things could go the other way.”

Just last week Vorders warned of the threat she fears is posed by political party Reform UK and urged voters to “come out to vote to save our country” ahead of local elections in her native Wales.

She labelled them a “chaotic London-based, privately educated, failed Tory party” and said they need “to be sent packing” as well as taking aim at its leader Nigel Farage.

Last October she made a brutal swipe at ex-pal Michelle Mone after a firm linked to her the bra tycoon was ordered to pay the Government £122million over a Covid personal protective equipment scandal.

In the new May issue of Woman&Home magazine, Carol admitted she has also become embroiled in legal rows but won’t back down because of them either.

She said: “I am a seriously happy person, but that doesn’t mean everything goes right.

“I’ve got some issues going on at the moment where I’ve had to get lawyers involved, but I’m not letting it be all-consuming.

“I live without apology. If some people don’t like how I live my life, stuff them.

“You can become intolerant as you get older but if someone is going to slate me, I don’t want to know them anyway.

“You get to an age where you care less than ever, and my time is now.”

In 2023 Carol announced she was leaving her weekly show on BBC Radio Wales after breaking Beeb guidelines with vocal attacks against the then Tory government on X.

At the time she said she was not “prepared to lose my voice on social media” and managers “have decided I must leave”.

She added: “My decision has been to continue to criticise the current UK government for what it has done to the country which I love – and I’m not prepared to stop.
