One lifeless and one other crucial after automotive mowed down a gaggle of followers outdoors a well-liked Comic Con occasion in Melbourne

A car has believed to have swerved into a group of people at a convention at Melbourne Showgrounds, killing one and seriously injuring another. 

The incident occurred just after 5pm at the popular Supanova Comic Con and Gaming event.

A witness, Tom, was leaving the festival with his wife and daughter when they saw a silver Toyota speed past them.

‘I heard a screech and a guy mounted the kerb at an erratic speed, hit a couple people,’ Tom told The Age

The car was then was seen doing a U-turn before heading back down the street towards Tom, who said the driver stalled the car before Tom got hold of him.

‘He was erratic. ‘I said, “you’re not going anywhere mate”,’ Tom said.

Victoria Police quickly arrived and arrested the driver.

Tom said his wife, who is a paramedic, worked on a victim who was allegedly hit by the car for 20 minutes before ambulances arrived.

‘He couldn’t move, but he was breathing,’ Tom said.

Other witnesses described the scene as ‘graphic’.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said a person died at the scene, and another was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

‘Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal collision in Ascot Vale this afternoon,’ she said.

‘Police have arrested a man who will be interviewed by police. The circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and the investigation remains ongoing.’
