Knife crime has been a scourge on society for too lengthy and tackling it’s crucial
The Daily Star says tackling the problem of knife crime needs to be a top priority for ministers after figures showed two school-age children are fatally stabbed every month
Knife crime has been a scourge on our society for some time now. But that doesn’t make a breakdown of figures any less shocking.
Probably the biggest bombshell is that two school-age children are stabbed to death every month in this country. Kids have always got into fights and scrapes. But when weapons are involved the capacity to destroy lives is far greater.
Not just the life of the kid who is dead and could have gone on to better things. The offender’s future will also be ruined. And the family who have to bury a son or daughter will never be the same again.
Tackling knife crime – especially among children – should be a top priority for any Government. The world is a grim enough place without British schoolkids stabbing each other to death.
Her Maj is still missed
It’s still hard to believe Queen Elizabeth II is no longer with us. She was such a mainstay of Britain for 70-plus years that her death seemed almost like a dream.
The vast majority of people alive in this country had only ever known one person to be on the throne. So it’s no surprise that King Charles wants to pay tribute on what would have been her 100th birthday today (April 21).
In a moving speech he said he suspects she would be troubled by events happening around the world right now. That’s possible but with respect, the late Queen reigned through some pretty rough times herself.
Before she was monarch she played an active role in World War Two. And in her 70-year reign she dealt with crises such as the Cold War, the Falklands, 9/11 and Covid.
Charles says he takes heart from her belief that goodness will always prevail and that a brighter dawn is never far from the horizon. That, and her resolve to keep calm and carry on…
