Arsenal information: £52m switch chased by Mikel Arteta as demand made and gamers known as out
Arsenal have the chance to return to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday as they take on Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium in a crucial game in the title race
Arsenal have the opportunity to reclaim their position at the summit of the Premier League table this Saturday.
The Gunners were displaced from the top by Manchester City in midweek after City’s victory at Burnley. This follows a woeful spell of results for Arsenal at a pivotal moment in the campaign which has left the title race completely open with five matches remaining. Mikel Arteta’s side have endured four defeats in their past six outings across all competitions, with the most costly being last weekend’s 2-1 league reverse to City.
Nevertheless, despite the pressure on Arteta, the coveted Premier League crown remains within reach, with five victories from their remaining five fixtures offering them an excellent opportunity to lift the title for the first time since 2004. They face Newcastle at home in a crucial encounter on Saturday evening. Here’s all the latest news from the Emirates Stadium.

William Saliba’s demand
William Saliba insists he and his Arsenal team-mates must be prepared to “die on the pitch” to fulfil their ambition of capturing the Premier League this season, reports the Mirror.
The centre-back has finished runner-up with the Gunners in three successive campaigns. The Frenchman has urged composure following a disappointing spell but maintains the north Londoners must give their absolute all to conclude the campaign with silverware.
Saliba told the official Arsenal website: “I think we need to be calm. We need to die on the pitch as well, because it’s now.
“Now we have to go, and we need everyone: the supporters, the team, the staff, everyone, because we have to do it now. After that, it’s too late. When the season is finished, it’s too late; you have to start the next season. It’s now. You have to give everything and die on the pitch.
“Last game we wanted to win, and we didn’t. But it’s not finished. Now we know what we have coming, and we know what we have to do if we want to win the league.
“We have to start on Saturday. We have good pressure with us because when you play football, you want to play these kinds of games. We’re ready for that.”
Ian Wright issues challenge
Ian Wright has made an appeal to Piero Hincapie, Jurrien Timber and Gabriel Jesus to step up and support their colleagues during this season’s finale.
The trio represent the only current Arsenal stars to have secured league crowns in recent times, meaning they understand the intense pressure of a title battle and, crucially, possess the know-how to cross the finishing line.
That experience proves vital for the current Arsenal squad, who have consistently come up short in their quest for trophies in recent campaigns, prompting critics and supporters to doubt their mental fortitude.
Club icon Wright believes Jesus, Hincapie and Timber can prove pivotal by leading by example for their team-mates during the final stretch of the season.
The former striker said on The Overlap: “In the City game I thought we did enough. If we can play like that, even if we’re trying to creep over the line, we can probably do it.
“We’ve got to find the fight. We’ve got Piero Hincapie who has won the Bundesliga, we’ve got Gabriel Jesus and we’ve got Jurrien Timber who has won in Holland, three players who have seen it off.
“They need to step into that team and try to make them understand what it’s going to take to finish this off because everybody in there will be having doubts, there’s nothing wrong with that.”
Arsenal transfer plan
Arsenal are said to have initiated contact with Sporting CP wing-back Maxi Araujo.
The Uruguayan star, who is also reportedly a target for Chelsea, has been a standout performer for the Lisbon side since joining from Toluca in 2024 after an impressive Copa America.
Araujo primarily plays as a winger for his country, but he is a left-back at club level. And the versatile player has bagged six goals and registered four assists in all competitions this term.
Record in Portugal reports the Gunners have launched an “attack” for the 26-year-old, who is valued at around £52m.
