Condoms set to soar in value to ‘daylight rubbery’ ranges as packs attain large determine
Lovers in search of contraception for their nookie will be horrified to hear about the cost of a pack of prophylactics in the wake of the Iran war pushing prices of everything up
Hard-up lovers are facing a hike in the price of condoms because of the Iran war. Experts have projected a pack of rubber Johnnies could soar to £13 because of the conflict which is hammering trade.
The unrest in the Middle East has disrupted supply chains and forced a sharp rise in production overheads.
UK sexual health retailer Condoms.uk revealed it has received updated guidance from supplier Pasante Healthcare – part of Karex, the world’s largest condom manufacturer – warning that material and shipping costs are surging across the industry.
They said key increases include up to a 30% enlargement for latex and packaging.
A spokesperson said: “What’s happening at manufacturing level will hit UK shoppers – it’s just a matter of when.
“Typically, these kinds of increases take three to six months to show up on shelves.
“If disruption continues, a pack that costs around £10 today could realistically rise to £12 or £13 by the end of the year.
“Behind the scenes, the category is already shifting. Lead times are longer, freight costs are up, and suppliers are signalling further increases.
“We expect value ranges to rise first, while bigger brands may hold prices slightly longer.”
But the British sheath-seller has confirmed it will freeze prices across selected ranges for a limited time using existing stock.
The spokesperson added: “We’ve taken the decision to hold our prices for as long as we can using current stock.
“It’s about giving customers a window to avoid the worst of the increases before they fully hit the market.
“If protection becomes more expensive, it risks becoming something people cut back on – and that has clear public health implications.”
