Area 51 ‘nuke take a look at’ fears as thriller earthquake swarm rattles top-secret base
A mystery earthquake cluster near Area 51 has sparked fears of covert nuclear testing due to unusual shallow tremors recorded near the top-secret site in the Nevada desert
A bizarre cluster of earthquakes has rocked the desert floor surrounding Area 51, sparking claims that the military could be conducting covert underground nuclear trials.
Conspiracy theorists and seismic experts have been left scratching their heads after at least three tremors were picked up just miles from the world’s most famous secret base.
The strongest of the bunch clocked in at a 4.4 magnitude, according to data from the USGS Earthquake Map, hitting a region that usually stays dead silent.
Speculation is reaching boiling point because the primary quake struck at a shallow depth of just 2.5 miles (4km).
The latest rattle was recorded at 5.38am local time on Thursday, with over 100 people reporting the ground shaking to the US Geological Survey.
Given that the area is crawling with high-level military personnel and private contractors, the actual number of people who felt the it is likely far higher than official reports suggest.
Geophysicist Stefan Burns admitted the location is “an unusual place to get an earthquake.”
The expert pointed out that the shallow depth is a major red flag that separates the tremors from the usual geological shift.
Burns noted that the “seismic signatures” of a natural earthquake and a man-made underground explosion can look almost identical to the untrained eye, especially when the energy is released fast and close to the surface.
He admitted there is enough mystery in the data to raise eyebrows.
Burns said “some ambiguity” exists in the data, adding that the bizarre activity was “worth discussing in the context of whether this is a covert underground nuclear test.”
The land around the base is already infamous for its explosive history, having been a hotspot for stockpiling and testing nuclear delivery systems for decades, as well as reports of alien sightings.
The tiny town of Rachel, Nevada, the closest settlement to the base, has built its entire identity on the mysterious phenomena happening behind the barbed wire.
With a population of just 23 people in 2026, the town is home to the legendary Little A’Le’Inn bar and motel, located right on the iconic Extraterrestrial Highway.
