Portable cast-iron BBQ provides meals ‘glorious flavour’ and ‘sears steaks to perfection’
‘Excellent heat and flavour for such a small grill’
Shoppers are snapping up a portable barbecue that they say gives ‘excellent heat and flavour’ for food, despite its compact size. The Cuisinart Outdoors Venture Portable Gas Grill is currently available from Lakeland for £159.99, down from £199.99.
Whether shoppers are heading out for a picnic, going camping, or just fancy cooking in a sunny spot in the garden, this barbecue is ideal for whipping up some tasty food. It has a porcelain enamel cooking grate, which provides ‘even, reliable heat across the whole surface’, and the brand says the grill sets up in seconds and heats quickly for easy, everyday outdoor meals.
The base has a neat storage space for a 450g propane tank, complete with a flip-out rack that holds it upright and secure while cooking, and it has a stylish wooden lid, which has two purposes. The lid protects the grill while travelling and can be used as a handy chopping board. Compact in size, with dimensions of 41.3cm x 33cm x 27.3cm, it’s perfect for meals on the go.

As an alternative, Argos has the Argos Home Portable Charcoal BBQ for £15. Described as being perfect for camping trips, picnics and festivals, this barbecue cooks food for around four people. Constructed from durable steel for long-lasting use, the stand fits into the base when users are finished, while the lid clips securely to avoid any spillage during transport.
Or at Debenhams, there’s the Living and Home Portable Charcoal Grill Charcoal BBQ for £25, currently reduced from £88.54. The wire mesh is made of premium metal, which the brand says is 100% heat-resistant and anti-rust, and it has a ‘slick black finish’.

Shoppers have left high praise for the product
While there are no direct reviews for the Cuisinart Outdoors Venture Portable Gas Grill on Lakeland’s site, shoppers have left their thoughts on Amazon, where the product is currently being sold for a higher price of £372.43. One said: “Excellent heat and flavour for such a small grill.”
A second wrote: “I was sceptical about a portable gas grill, but the cast iron grates on this Cuisinart make all the difference. It gets hot enough to sear steaks perfectly, and the food has that genuine ‘grilled’ taste you usually only get from a full-sized BBQ. It cooks incredibly evenly – no cold spots – so burgers and chicken come out juicy with a great char.”
While a third wrote: “Absolutely love it. So convenient and portable. Use it for lunch during spring skiing, and all the time at the beach in the summer. Gets lots of looks and compliments.”
Others deducted a star, as one said: “Easy to use/set up, but a little heavy for a travel grill. Also, everything sticks to the grate even after I seasoned it. You have to buy a lid separately. But it does cook evenly so far. I’ve used it five times now. Good for cooking for two people.”
Another said: “I like the overall design. It heats up super quickly, and it lights and stays lit in windy conditions. It is a little bit heavy to carry. But the ease in storing it, given the design, makes it worth the extra weight. Note, it does not have a lid, so you’ll need to get a steel dome or other separate piece if you want to create an oven-like effect. But for open grilling, it’s good.”
