Woman who ripped out her eyes to ‘save the world’ seen strolling ‘her geese’ in restoration

WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT: Kaylee Muthart became a world famous survivor of drug addiction in February 2018 when she entered a psychotic state and brutally blinded herself

A woman who ripped out her own eyes in a drug-fuelled rampage has shared a video of her life as she recovers from her devastating drug addiction. Kaylee Muthart was just 20 when she brutally mutilated herself to “save the world” in 2018.

Her life took a downward spiral when she was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, suffered a mental breakdown and a devastating break up all at once. To cope with her overwhelming emotions, she turned to drugs and found herself addicted to meth after smoking a joint spiked with the dangerous stimulant.

In the middle of her narcotic dependency, she took a massive “last” dose of meth with plans for it to be her last. However, the hit sent her into psychosis and, in her delirious state, she tore her own eyes out, believing the act of self mutilation would “save the world”.

Eight years on from her darkest day which left her blind and her life is a world apart from the depth of drug addiction. In a video posted to TikTok recently, Kaylee, of South Carolina, US, was seen adventuring around a lake with the help of a man.

The video starts with the pair walking up behind a group of geese. “Are you guys walking your geese today?”, a woman is heard asking.

Kaylee responds, “we are just saying hi. We don’t know them.” The man helping Kaylee walk then says: “It looks like they are a couple which is cute because they are walking in a pair and one of them is taller than the other.

“They are hobbling along and walking as slow as us”, says the man. Kaylee and her friend then laugh again about the woman asking if they were “walking their geese”.

With a family history of addiction, Kaylee had initially avoided hard drugs. But she dropped out of school at the age of 17, with aspirations to save for college. Unfortunately, she fell in with a bad crowd and at 19, succumbed to the drug abuse she had tried so hard to stay away from after smoking a joint laced with methamphetamine.

The pivotal day that forever altered her life saw Kaylee reportedly take a higher-than-normal dose of meth— a final hurrah before kicking the dangerous habit.

What followed was a meth-induced delusion, which made her believe she had to meet someone at the church in her state. On the way, a friend she was staying with drove past and shouted: “I locked up the house. Do you have the other key?”

Kaylee reportedly interpreted this as a call for “sacrifice”. Speaking to , she said: “I remember thinking that someone had to sacrifice something important to right the world, and that person was me. I don’t know how I came to that conclusion, but I felt it was, without doubt, the right, rational thing to do immediately. I got on my hands and knees, pounding the ground and praying, ‘Why me? Why do I have to do this?’”

Kaylee told the publication: “I pushed my thumb, pointer, and middle finger into each eye. I gripped each eyeball, twisted, and pulled until each eye popped out of the socket — it felt like a massive struggle, the hardest thing I ever had to do.”

After Kaylee was discovered screaming “I want to see the light”, a pastor came to her aid. She believes she would have eventually clawed her way into her brain had the pastor not heard her. She said: “He [the pastor] later said, when he found me, that I was holding my eyeballs in my hands. I had squished them, although they were somehow still attached to my head.”

Subsequently, Kaylee was rushed to hospital where it took seven individuals to restrain her while doctors removed the remnants of her eyes to preserve her optic nerves and prevent infection.
