Nottingham recycling centre fireplace sends large smoke plumes in air as locals issued warning
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued advice urging residents to keep doors and windows closed as crews tackle a large recycling centre fire in Dunkirk, Nottingham
Fire crews have been called to a huge fire at a recycling centre. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that several fire engines responded to the incident on Alcester Street, in Dunkirk, after receiving a call at 4.22am on Sunday (May 3).
The site is located on an industrial estate off the A52 Clifton Boulevard. A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue was unable to specify which business was affected by the blaze, but Alcester Street is known to house scrap metal recycling companies.
In its initial report on the incident, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue stated: “We are currently in attendance at a recycling fire in Dunkirk, following a call at 4.22am. Please avoid the area while our crews deal with the incident.
“The smoke is travelling north, towards the Queen’s Medical Centre. Please keep doors and windows closed.”
Teams from West Bridgford, Highfields, London Road, Stockhill and Carlton were all involved, reports Nottinghamshire Live.
A representative from the fire service mentioned that, at the peak of the incident, nine fire engines were present but, as of 7.45am on Sunday, this had been reduced to five and more were set to depart.
A smaller contingent of crews is anticipated to stay at the scene for the ‘next few hours’ while the fire is being extinguished.
