‘I examined out a discount vacuum cleaner which relegated our previous devoted to the bench’

Daily Star Assistant Editor Richard Brown tested out a new vacuum cleaner to see if it could dislodge his battle-tested but old Henry – and was surprised by the results

All good things must come to an end and like an ageing footballer coming off a knee injury, our trusty, battle-worn Henry vacuum cleaner is starting to creak a little bit.

So when I was given the opportunity to get hold of the new Vexilar V15 Max cordless vacuum and mop, I knew I couldn’t let it pass me by.

I had to usher in a new generation and at least give the Vexilar the chance to supplant our old faithful. Especially given that, at less than £100, it’s an absolute bargain.

And while Henry will still be wheeled out from under the stairs for the big jobs, like a cameo in an FA Cup final, he’s been firmly relegated to the bench for your day-to-day cleaning.

But before we get into what makes the Vexilar V15 such a great option, first, an admission: I absolutely loathe vacuuming. It’s noisy, cumbersome and time-consuming, especially in a house with pets.

I’m very much after something convenient and easy to use, that takes up the bare minimum of space in the house and time spent using it and on that front, the Vexilar is a clean sweep.

It’s one of the best vacuums I’ve ever used for everyday practicality, with an hour of battery life (but a bit less if you crank up the power) and a flexible tube that folds right down to get underneath even the bulkiest of furniture.

It even has a built-in mop that lets you suck up debris and clean the floor simultaneously, a real game-changer for the lazy cleaner like myself.

But the best bit for me – it can tuck in the corner of a room, taking up almost no space, with a self-standing design and wall-mountable charging. So it’s simply a case of grabbing it, giving it a quick whizz around the house and popping it back on to charge. Sorry, Henry, but you just can’t compete with that.

And for such a small unit, the suction power is excellent. I tested it out with crumbs, dog hair, and any matter of little bits of crap I could find around the house and it passed every test with flying colours.

Depending on how big your house is, the Vexilar V15 may never ascend to being your main vacuum cleaner for deep cleans, but for 99% of people 99% of the time, it does more than enough.
