Amanda Seyfried leaves followers involved as she appears to be like near tears on the purple carpet on the Met Gala

Amanda Seyfried has left fans concerned as she looked close to tears on the red carpet at the Met Gala on Monday night.

The Housemaid actress, 40, looked very teary-eyed at fashion’s biggest night of the year as she chatted with reporters about a potential third Mamma Mia movie.

She said: ‘It was an iconic time for all of us to have something just work so well, for people and still working to this day. I can’t wait to get back.’

However, fans were left worried for the American star, who skipped the annual event last year, as she looked close to tears.

They wrote: ‘Is she crying?; Why is she crying?; Why are her eyes so glossy?’

Despite the emotional moment, Amanda stunned in a custom-made Prada princess gown and accessorised with eye-catching Tiffany & Co jewelry.

Her strapless pink number featured a figure-hugging bodice with a drop waist and a billowing skirt with thick ruffles.

As she walked up the Met steps, Amanda’s train trailed behind her, with her long blonde tresses cascading down her back from a sleek ponytail.

The actress was joined on the red carpet by the likes of Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Nicole Kidman and Hailey Bieber.

The theme of this year’s event – widely considered the Super Bowl of celebrity red carpets – was Costume Art, while the dress code was Fashion is Art.

But the gala was marred with controversy over Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, 62, and wife Lauren Sanchez, 56, sponsoring the event.

The couple reportedly gave $10 million to the Costume Institute in exchange for being named honorary co-chairs.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Amanda’s representatives for comment.

It comes after Amanda insisted that winning an Oscar ‘isn’t important’ as she asked ‘do you know who won in the last ten years?’ after being ‘robbed’ of a Golden Globe.

The Mean Girls star received a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the Academy Awards in 2021 for her role in Mank.

She also scored nods at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards this year for The Testament Of Ann Lee – hinting at a possible Oscar nomination for the role.

But Amanda has now insisted she doesn’t need the accolade to sustain a successful career.

Speaking to The New Yorker, Amanda said it’s actually the Oscar nomination that ‘thrusts you forward’, as she asked: ‘Do you remember who won in the past ten years?’

She added: ‘Now, do I need one in a week or two or whenever? No, of course, I don’t. Would it be great? Of course it would, for every reason – but it isn’t necessary.’

Amanda previously raised eyebrows with her behaviour at the Golden Globes in January when she lost out on two Best Actress gongs – looking bored as the awards were announced

The actress then appeared visibly disappointed when she lost the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture to If I Had Legs I’d Kick You star Rose Byrne.

In a viral clip from the evening, the Emmy-winning star, who was nominated for The Testament Of Ann Lee, was caught grimacing briefly before forcing a smile and clapping.

Amanda’s fans have since claimed she behaved in such a manner because she ‘knew she wasn’t about to win’, adding that the actress was ‘robbed’ of the accolades.
