Horror London fireplace as over 50 firefighters swarm scene and smoke fills the sky

London Fire Brigade and surrounding fire stations were called to a ‘block of maisonettes’ on Mount Pleasant Lane in Clapton on Tuesday evening with a massive column of smoke seen rising in the skies

A massive fire has erupted in the Hackney district of London, with more than 70 firefighters reportedly on site.

London Fire Brigade said it was called to a fire at a “block of maisonettes” on Mount Pleasant Lane in Clapton shortly after 8pm on Tuesday. Pictures and videos shared online show a column of dark smoke rising into the sky above a church steeple.

The fire service said the fire is “producing a significant amount of smoke” and warned people in the local area to keep their windows and doors closed. Crews from Stoke Newington, Tottenham, Homerton and surrounding fire stations have been deployed the scene.

London Fire Brigade has said in a recent statement: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a fire on Mount Pleasant Lane in Clapton. The building is affecting a block of maisonettes.

“The fire is producing a significant amount of smoke and we are advising people in the local area to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke travel.

“The Brigade was first called about the fire at 2004 and Control Officers have mobilised crews from Stoke Newington, Tottenham, Homerton and surrounding fire stations to the scene. A 32-metre turntable ladder is also in attendance.”
