An incident in Bristol on Sunday was reportedly caused by a domestic incident that allegedly saw a man ‘set off a hand grenade’ that saw an explosion at a property in Sterncourt Road
A house explosion which killed two people in Bristol was allegedly caused by a “hand grenade set off by an ex”, it has been claimed locally.
The blast on Sunday (May 3) in Sterncourt Road, Frenchay, killed a man and a woman with three left injured, including a child. The horror incident saw the police send in the bomb squad.
Now locals are reports the incident was caused by a man allegedly setting off a grenade. It reportedly killed him and his ex partner, who is believed to have lived at the property.
The three other people injured in the blast have since been released from hospital.
One local told The Sun: “He’s turned up at her house with a grenade and detonated it on the doorstep and killed the pair of them.
“At first when I heard the boom I thought it was a gas explosion or even a huge car crash. I could feel the whole house shake.”
On Monday (May 4), rumours of a grenade being involved had circulated online, claiming the male victim was an ex. Some said the blast occurred on the doorstep of the property but police are yet to confirm full details of the incident.
Other unconfirmed speculation has suggested a homemade device and not a grenade had been used in the incident.
Avon and Somerset Police are still investigating the blast which happened at 6.30am on Sunday. A cordon was put up but has since been relaxed.
Tributes have been shared online paying tribute to the female victim who died in the tragedy, reports BristolLive.
One described the woman as an “amazing friend”, adding: “I can’t believe you were taken from us.”
“I’m so so sorry for your awful loss,” another comment said. While a third added: “Sending our love and support for you and your family, RIP.”
In a statement made on Sunday (May 3), Superintendent Matt Ebbs’ statement said: “At about 6.17am, we received a call to attend a domestic-related incident at a residential address in Sterncourt Road.
“Officers were sent to the scene but shortly before they arrived – at just after 6.30am – there was an explosion inside the property.
“A woman and a man have died at the address and we’re treating the explosion as suspicious. Their families have been updated and are being supported by specially trained officers. Our thoughts are very much with them.”
