Jake Tapper Harshly Fact Checks Trump’s Nonsense ‘100% Approval’ Claim In Real Time

CNN host Jake Tapper torched President Donald Trump with a real-time fact check on Tuesday after he claimed that he had 100% support among Republicans.
“I am at, according to CNN, 100% approval within the Republican Party, that’s better than your record, Gary,” Trump said, gesturing to golfer Gary Player. “I’m at 100% approval. Did you see the CNN poll? Nobody talks about it, CNN. I think the people that did that poll probably got fired. But within the Republican Party and MAGA, which is basically 100% of the party I think, but 100%.”

Tapper quickly responded to the clip posted on X, linking to the original CNN article that Trump was likely referring to, which showed anything but 100% approval, even among Republican voters.
“Nope. Relatedly: ‘Charting how Trump became a historically unpopular president’ (In this story from today, we see Trump support among Republicans from 3/25 to 3/26 has gone from 90% to 80% and strong support from 64% to 43%),” Tapper wrote.

The poll showed Trump at historic lows among key demographics, including a drop from 54% support among male voters in February 2025 to 38% in March 2026.
The poll also shows slumping support for specific issues once considered the president’s strongest.
Only 41% of respondents said they approved of Trump’s handling of immigration, 31% said they approved of his handling of the economy and 36% said they approved of his handling of foreign affairs.
Regardless, none of the numbers point to anything close to 100% approval, as Trump claimed.
