Zack Polanski’s thriller narrowboat residing preparations as questions emerge
Green Party leader Zack Polanski is facing fresh questions about his narrowboat living arrangements after his partner’s sale advert described the east London vessel as their ‘amazing home’
Zack Polanski is facing renewed scrutiny over his living arrangements after his partner appeared to confirm that they regarded an east London narrowboat as their primary home. Green Party leader Mr Polanski has maintained he only stayed at the Hackney mooring “occasionally.”
Nevertheless, examination of his housing situation has escalated following a string of allegations and documents indicating the boat operated as a permanent residence. The most recent pressure arises from a sales advertisement for the narrowboat, which remained online this week.
Penned by Mr Polanski’s partner, the advert referred to the vessel as their “amazing home” and declared: “We are moving to a house and so will sadly be leaving the gorgeous community behind.” That description has sparked queries over whether the boat was, in reality, their principal residence during the timeframe in which Mr Polanski has claimed his use of it was restricted.
Government guidance states that boats can be liable for council tax if they are utilised as a sole or main residence, depending on circumstances and mooring arrangements.
When questioned about where Mr Polanski had paid council tax over the past three years, a Green Party spokesman replied: “Zack’s council tax is included in the rent he pays his landlord.” The explanation is likely to stoke further questions as voters head to the polls. According to a poll released yesterday, the controversy may be having a significant impact; Mr Polanski’s personal approval ratings have started to plummet, falling 12 points in 24 hours as public trust wobbles.
This sudden drop suggests that while the Green Party is predicted to make gains, the “narrowboat narrative” is striking a negative chord with the electorate, reports the Express.
Additional claims have increased the ambiguity surrounding the arrangement. A laundrette owner near the Kingsland Basin marina told The Times he had collected laundry from Mr Polanski and his partner at regular intervals between 2023 and last September, describing a routine service involving pickup and return of laundry directly from the mooring.
Mr Polanski’s spokesman contested the accuracy of parts of that account, but confirmed he had used a nearby building “as a convenient and secure place to collect his post.”
Local residents have also reported seeing Mr Polanski frequently in the marina area, including in recent weeks. One rower said members of a local group chat had spotted him multiple times, while another claimed to have seen him getting into a taxi about a week and a half ago.
Reach PLC has contacted the Green Party for additional comment.
