Baby dies in ‘devastating’ incident at dwelling as lady, 25, arrested for ‘baby neglect’

A 25-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect after a baby girl died in hospital in Manchester, in what police described as a ‘devastating incident’

A 25-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect following the tragic death of a baby girl in hospital, according to police. Greater Manchester Police reported that officers responded to welfare concerns on Platt Lane, Fallowfield, on Thursday morning.

Despite the valiant efforts of emergency services, the infant girl was pronounced dead after being rushed to hospital. The woman, arrested under suspicion of child neglect, is currently held in police custody, the force confirmed.

“This is a devastating incident and news of a police investigation will cause shock in the local community,” Detective Chief Inspector Ian Wrench, of the force’s City of Manchester District, stated on Friday.

“Please be assured that we are keeping an open mind as we pursue several lines of enquiry, working closely with our partners to understand the full circumstances surrounding how this death occurred.

“We are doing everything possible to provide answers for this baby and their family.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that officers are persisting with their investigation on Platt Lane.

The force appealed to anyone who could contribute to their investigation to come forward, referencing log 825 of 07/05/26.
