Darts hero combating most cancers confirms Premier League return in emotional assertion

Darts hero Mark Webster has confirmed he will be making his return to Premier League darts after opening up on his cancer diagnosis

Darts hero Mark Webster will be back in the commentary booth for Premier League darts on Thursday after he revealed his cancer diagnosis.

Webster has revealed he has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as hairy cell leukaemia last week, and he had taken a step back from commentary duties to tackle the health issue. And he has now confirmed he’ll be returning to the booth with an emotional statement.

Taking to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, he said: “I’m delighted to say that since this interview was filmed, things have improved.

“Although I’m still undergoing treatment, I have been cleared to return to Premier League duty on Thursday. Looking forward to being back amongst it. Thanks again for all of the love and support!”

Speaking in a candid interview earlier this month, Webster revealed he had been diagnosed with the disease: He said: “On January 8th, I was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer called hairy cell leukaemia. It’s got a good prognosis, 95% of cases are successful.

“I will put it into some sort of remission at some point but the recovery at the minute is not going to plan in terms of the speed of it.

“It’s not the worst case scenario but it’s just a bit frustrating for me at the minute. But I’m managing okay, I’m dealing with it alright.”

The Spider burst onto the scene in 2006, and won the 2008 BDO World Darts Championship before spending a decade in the PDC.

Since his retirement he has become the most recognisable figures in the darts broadcasting world.
