Donald Trump says Keir Starmer is ‘windmilling the UK to loss of life’ in baffling tirade

Donald Trump embarked on his latest bizarre rant tonight, after he was pressed over whether Keir Starmer should stay or go following Labour’s awful election results

Unhinged Donald Trump again blasted Keir Starmer tonight — bizarrely accusing the Prime Minister of “windmilling the country to death”.

The President claimed the UK is “getting killed on energy” and called on Mr Starmer — who today defied mounting calls to quit — to explore the use of more oil in the North Sea. Incredibly, Mr Trump stated our nation is “windmilling” too much — despite many of these structures no longer working, or even being consigned to demolition decades ago.

Mr Trump said: “You’re windmilling your country to death. Open up the North Sea. You have one of the greatest sources of energy in the world… My advice to him (Mr Starmer) has always been, open up your oil in the North Sea.

“You got one of the great oil finds anywhere in the world, and you’re not using it, they’re not allowed to use it, and it’s one of the best in the world, among the best oils in the world. Open up your oil in the North Sea and get tough on immigration. Europe is being very, very hurt by immigration all over Europe.”

The most recent data shows more than 34% of the UK’s energy source was oil in 2022. In the same year, nuclear power was at just over eight per cent and coal stood at around three per cent.

The few windmills which in the UK operate are primarily used to mill grain. They played significant roles in British history in agriculture and early industry, and are not known nowadays for producing our energy.

But Mr Trump didn’t hesitate with his tirade. The 79-year-old politician said it was “absolutely crazy” not to boost oil and gas extraction in the North Sea and focus instead on renewable energy. He has also argued wind turbines — different from traditional windmills — “put you out of business”.

And the President, who earlier today insulted a reporter when questioned about his plans for a new White House ballroom, was pressed for his thoughts on whether Mr Starmer should stay or go following the Labour leader’s pressure this week. Mr Trump would not answer, insisting chose to whinge about Mr Starmer’s stance on immigration.

The Prime Minister is currently fighting for his political life in the face of a Labour revolt after last week’s disastrous local election results. Four ministers have dramatically stepped down and, so far, more than 80 MPs have publicly called for the PM to go – but he has told his Cabinet he won’t resign.
