Donald Trump has been savaged by his own die-hard MAGA base after a “disgusting” admission regarding his devastating war with Iran. The US President left loyalists reeling when he bluntly confessed, “I don’t think about anybody,” after being grilled on the crippling financial toll the conflict is taking on hard-working Americans.
The shocking moment unfolded on Tuesday as Trump paused to address reporters before jetting off on a high-stakes historic mission to China.
While the Commander-in-Chief prepares for a face-to-face showdown with President Xi Jinping over trade and the Middle East crisis, his comments back home have sparked widespread fury.
One reporter pushed Trump on whether he had given any thought to the brutal economic strain the war has forced onto ordinary families, only to receive a cold brush-off.
The reporter asked: “When you’re negotiating with Iran, Mr. President, to what extent are Americans’ financial situations motivating you to make a deal?” Trump bluntly replied: “Not even a little bit.”
He added: “The only thing that matters when I’m talking about Iran, they can’t have a nuclear weapon. I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation, I don’t think about anybody,” the president disclosed.
Trump immediately faced criticism over his remarks, with even the president’s MAGA supporters left furious, reports the Mirror US.
Self-declared “MAGA realist” Eric Spracklen posted on X: “This is not the same man I voted for. I honestly can’t even recognize him anymore. An absolutely disgusting betrayal. MAGA boomers please wake up, PRESIDENT TRUMP DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU.”
A second Trump supporter wrote: “I just can’t get over how badly this is going to look in the morning, nevermind how many times this will run during the midterms.”
They added: “He couldn’t have handed this to the Dems any better. He will never listen to his advisors, and the hubris will be his downfall. And unfortunately we will have to live with the socialists that come next. President Trump; SMARTEN UP!!!”
Far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, previously a staunch defender of Trump, characterised the president’s comments as “TRULY SHOCKING” as he likened him to Marie Antoinette, France’s last queen, who was notorious for her extravagant lifestyle and who met her end at the guillotine during the French Revolution.
In a video posted to X, Jones said: “You’re running around with your gold toilets and gold everywhere, and all of your kids making tonnes of money off of all the bitcoin, whatever, the point is this is a Marie Antoinette let them eat cake.
“Trump is literally saying ‘let them eat cake’ here and you could not hand the Democrats a better weapon six months out from the midterms, this will be in TV ads by tomorrow.
“This is just out of control. I think the doctors are right, I’m not saying this is a fact but I’ve studied it and I’ve seen it in family, I think he has frontal lobe cerebral cortex dementia.”
When questioned further about his initial response by another journalist on Tuesday, Trump merely reiterated his stance.
The reporter asked: “Did you say earlier that the only thing that matters to you with Iran is nuclear weapons? You’re not considering the financial impact this war is having on Americans?”
Trump replied: “The most important thing by far is Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. Every American understands it. If the stock market goes up or down a little bit…the American people understand it.”
