Brits urged to dunk biscuits of their pints as it is a ‘successful mixture’

Britain’s love affairs with biscuits is set to step up a notch as we’re being urged to dunk them in our pints.

The public’s two favourite things make a winning combination, experts say. Food boffins at Fortnum and Mason have invented biccies which are made to be paired with booze – including Champagne, whisky, wine and gin as well as beer.

They unveiled the ‘biscuits for drinks’ range at their new Willy Wonka-style ‘biscuitorium’ factory which is entirely devoted to the snacks. The experts said they had the stroke of genius while looking for new reasons to eat biscuits, birthing the ludicrous love child.

They said biscuits have “always held a special place in our hearts”, which inspired them on their quest. The eggheads in the lab took inspiration from cocktail recipes and botanicals found in gin during their journey to make the perfect mix.

While the idea seems absurd, chefs worked up some serious elbow grease searching for perfect combinations of pints and cookies. But finding the perfect biscuit for beer stumped the cookie lovers for a while.

However the masterminds found the flavours of Hazelnut and Cocoa worked perfectly when dunked deep into a pint, creating a brilliant fusion of both sweet and savoury tastes. The eggheads have also created a giant £30 “Whoppalossus” sharing biscuit which weighs 400g and is perfect for those who devour an entire packet in one sitting.

The massive biscuit – which weighs around the same as a loaf of bread – is a very hefty 15.5cm in diameter. Fortnum & Mason, the iconic British retailer, has unveiled the Biscuitorium, a brand-new destination dedicated entirely to biscuits at its iconic Piccadilly store.

Located on the mezzanine level of the ground floor and measuring over 200sqm, the immersive space celebrates the brand’s long-standing love affair with biscuits. It brings together heritage recipes, imaginative new flavours and theatrical displays, all designed to delight visitors and biscuit lovers alike in every tin, crumb and chocolate-coated creation.

Holly Warren, Biscuit Buyer at Fortnum & Mason has said: “At Fortnum’s, biscuits have always held a special place in our hearts. The Biscuitorium is a space where we can celebrate both our heritage and our curiosity for new ideas, from perfecting much-loved classics to introducing playful innovations.

“We wanted to create something truly immersive that invites customers to explore, discover and, most importantly, indulge in the very best of biscuit craftsmanship.”
