Pep Guardiola or Enzo Maresca Man City workforce meet lookalike new boss identical because the outdated boss

Manchester City fans bracing themselves for a heart-wrenching goodbye to Pep Guardiola might find comfort in a rather unexpected place: their incoming manager is essentially his doppelgänger.

The footballing world has been rocked by the news that Guardiola will officially bring the curtain down on his illustrious, golden decade at the Etihad this summer.

Having amassed a staggering 20 trophies – including six Premier League titles, a Champions League, three FA Cups, and five League Cups – the 55-year-old Spaniard leaves behind a legacy of unprecedented dominance that will be nearly impossible to replicate.

Yet, City’s hierarchy has apparently decided that if they can’t keep the original mastermind, they will hire the man who looks exactly like him. Enter Enzo Maresca. With a reported two-year agreement in principle (along with an option for a third) now in place, the 46-year-old Italian is poised to step into the hottest seat in English football.

Look to the touchline next season, and you might have to rub your eyes. With their identically immaculate bald heads, meticulously trimmed tactical beards, and penchant for animated, touchline-pacing intensity, Maresca and Guardiola could easily pass for twins. If City wanted a visually seamless transition, they have certainly nailed the aesthetics. The Etihad faithful won’t have to adjust their eyesight much; it’s the ultimate stunt-double casting for the Premier League’s most successful franchise.

However, Maresca is far more than just a Guardiola lookalike; he is arguably Pep’s most successful tactical disciple. The Italian’s journey to the Etihad dugout is deeply rooted in his time working closely alongside Guardiola. Maresca guided City’s under-21s to their first-ever Premier League 2 title in 2021 before returning as an assistant coach for the historic 2022-23 treble-winning campaign.

Since stepping out of Guardiola’s shadow, Maresca has built a stellar resume. He led Leicester City to the Championship title in 2024 before embarking on a turbulent but highly successful stint at Chelsea. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he won the Europa Conference League and the Club World Cup while qualifying for the Champions League, though he departed the club in January.

Guardiola himself has made his admiration clear, hailing his former protégé as “one of the best managers in the world.” With rumors already circulating that Maresca could poach stars like Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, City fans can rest assured. The new boss might look identical to the old one, but he is fully ready to make his own mark. . . despite his not-so-stellar individual management career.
