Pep Guardiola set to interrupt silence on ‘give up’ claims days after ‘storming off’

Pep Guardiola is reportedly set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season, with an official announcement yet to be made. The Spanish boss will be forced to speak to the media tonight ahead of the Bournemouth clash.

Pep Guardiola will quit Manchester City at the end of the season following stunning revelations that emerged late last night – and he will address the public tonight. City are yet to formally confirm the news that their iconic manager will bow out after 10 magnificent years at the Etihad Stadium. But ex-Chelsea and Leicester boss Enzo Maresca is poised to step in.

City are embroiled in a dramatic title race with Arsenal and must defeat Bournemouth tonight to maintain their trophy ambitions. Yet that encounter has been eclipsed by reports that Guardiola will vacate his role a year ahead of his contract’s expiry.

Guardiola will be compelled to address the media and broadcasters tonight before City’s showdown with Bournemouth. It will mark the first occasion the Spaniard will field questions about his future since reports emerged that he will quit the club, reports the Mirror.

It is unusual for managers to avoid media obligations for Premier League fixtures as it can result in substantial penalties for them and the club.

Consequently, all attention will focus on Guardiola’s compulsory pre-match press conference around 7pm tonight.

Guardiola will be hoping tonight’s interview proceeds far smoother than his weekend encounter. After City’s FA Cup final victory, Laura Woods caught the Blues manager off-guard live on TNT Sports.

The presenter enquired: “Pep, there are so many rumours aren’t there, about you leaving. You’re not are you?” Guardiola appeared baffled and replied: “What rumours?” Woods then reiterated: “Rumours!” But Guardiola brought the exchange to an abrupt end by declaring: “Have a lovely evening!”

He then marched off the set. Tonight will mark Guardiola’s first live TV interview since the weekend.
