Mum and ‘father determine’ companion dedicated intercourse crimes in opposition to her daughters

A mother and her male partner were convicted of a series of sex offences against her two teenage daughters – with one victim saying she feels ‘totally and utterly betrayed’ by her mum

A mother and her boyfriend have been handed down sentences for a series of horrific sexual offences against the woman’s two teenage daughters.

The woman, who remains anonymous to safeguard the victims’ identities, had her two girls who were placed into care at a young age due to her drug addiction, Leicester Crown Court heard. The court was informed the woman had been involved with the male defendant for the past decade.

And the couple had four children who were also put into care. As they grew older, the woman’s two daughters started to reconnect with their mother. In 2022, the elder of the woman’s two daughters, then aged 16, paid a visit to her mother’s residence in central Leicester.

The girl was sat on the sofa watching the film Suicide Squad with her mother and the man. During the incident the woman undressed while her partner pleasured himself and attempted to coerce the girl into sexually touching her mother.

The mother faced charges of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity in connection with that incident, reports the Mirror. In May of the previous year, the younger victim was visiting her estranged mother when the crimes against her took place. The mother stepped out onto the balcony to smoke cannabis leaving the victim, who was 18 at the time, alone with the man.

He initially embraced her before kissing her on the mouth and then sexually assaulting her. For these crimes, the man faced charges of assault by penetration, sexual touching and two counts of sexual assault.

Both the man and woman were additionally charged with intimidation of a victim of crime regarding voice messages they sent to one of the girls, pressuring her not to support the prosecution. The pair denied all charges but were convicted by a jury.

The woman failed to attend her trial but subsequently admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice. They appeared at Leicester Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday.

In victim impact statements read to the court, both girls held their mother responsible for the offences committed against them. One stated: “I once felt comfortable and confident in my skin but I no longer recognise that person. I feel totally and utterly betrayed by my mum. She let me down in the worst possible way.”

Her sister said: “I saw [the male defendant] as a father figure and I feel used by both him and mum. I fear if they’re released they may come after me. I worry about violence from them. I feel vulnerable, isolated and deeply affected. I don’t believe I’ll ever be the same person I was before this happened.”

James Varley, representing the male defendant, who had multiple previous convictions including burglary which resulted in a prison sentence, stated there was no personal mitigation which would enhance his client’s position. Gary Short, the solicitor for the mother, revealed his client had suffered abuse during her childhood.

He stated: “She was fragile. Such was her weakness she couldn’t even come to the trial. It’s the psychological impact of what has happened to her since her childhood.”

He explained his client held her partner responsible for her involvement in the crime. Mr Short said: “This was all his idea and it was under his instruction.”

He clarified his client did not verbally incite her 16-year-old daughter to engage in sexual activity but did encourage it through her actions. Judge Keith Raynor handed down a sentence of five years and one month to the man.

The woman received a two-year prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with 12 months of drug rehabilitation, an additional 15 days on courses aimed at preventing reoffending, and a £187 victim surcharge. The woman sobbed in the dock as her sentence was read out and assured the judge she would complete rehabilitation and cease drug use.
