Heat surge returns as UK climate maps predict 32C temps throughout 21 counties – full listing

Temperatures in the UK are forecast to surge to as high as 32C within days, according to advanced weather forecasting maps — with 21 counties predicted to reach 30C or above

Temperatures across the UK could soar to 32C within days, according to advanced weather forecasting maps.

The mercury has settled back to typical levels this week after a blistering May heatwave that saw temperatures climb above 35C – the hottest ever recorded in May. Thunderstorms and torrential downpours have even swept the nation – but it seems sweltering conditions are set to return imminently.

The ECMWF weather model indicates temperatures should begin climbing once more from June 15, when peaks of 29C are anticipated in the south-east. The mercury could reach 28C in the north-west, the data indicates, with central Scotland potentially experiencing 24C highs.

Maximum potential temperature maps reveal another spike on June 16, with 32C possible across the south-east of England. The data indicates 29C-30C peaks are likely in northern England as well, while 31C is feasible in eastern England and South Yorkshire.

Temperature anomaly maps for June 16 display patches of deep red stretching right across England, Wales and southern Scotland. This signals where temperatures are forecast to climb well beyond the seasonal norm, reports the Mirror.

Overall, the ECMWF model data indicates as many as 21 counties could experience temperatures reaching 30C or above during this spell. They are all located in England.

Is the UK bracing for another heatwave?

An official heatwave is announced in the UK when temperatures reach the heatwave threshold, which ranges from 25C to 28C depending on the county, for three consecutive days. Therefore, this latest data from the ECMWF model doesn’t yet indicate another official heatwave is imminent.

Met Office weather forecast for June

The Met Office’s prediction for June 7 to 16 suggests “high pressure and more settled conditions” should prevail towards the middle of the month, particularly in southern regions.

For the remainder of June, the Met Office expects temperatures to be “above normal” for the most part. While “it may also become hot in parts of the south”, the national weather agency warns that “heavy showers and thunderstorms” are also possible.
