‘I acquired soaked in beer for movie function and informed Jason Statham I used to be being paid in biscuits’

Alex Sim-Wise says her encounter with the holiday star was ‘awkward’

A model has recalled her awkward encounter with Hollywood action star Jason Statham while filming in one of his movies – saying she was drenched in beer and ‘paid in biscuits’. Alex Sim-Wise said the bizarre moment happened while she was working as an extra on the 2008 crime thriller The Bank Job.

Appearing on the Option One Podcast, Alex revealed she had to wear a special costume piece for the role before joking to Jason Statham that she was being “paid in bourbon biscuits”. “I was in The Bank Job with Jason Statham,” said Alex. “I was a stripper and I was standing on a table. I got more money because of my outfit.”

The former glamour model explained she had been cast as a 1970s dancer for the scene. She said: “They took me to one side and asked if I was alright wearing a merkin (a pubic wig). I didn’t even know what one was. They had this lady glueing it on and I was just thinking, ‘This is a lot’. But I really wanted to be in the film, so I just went along with it.”

Alex said filming involved repeating the same scene over and over while beer was poured over her. She said: “My part in the film was getting a pint of beer poured down on me about 50 times. Every time they reset the scene they had to refluff everything and redo my hair.

“Jason Statham was standing there looking at me and he said, ‘I hope you’re getting paid lots of money for this’. I joked, ‘Actually I’m getting paid in bourbon biscuits’. He thought I was serious.”

During the candid interview, Alex also opened up about becoming “obsessed” with glamour models as a teenager and how it inspired her own career in entertainment. She said: “I was just really obsessed with Melinda Messenger when I was 14. I just wanted to be a stripper and be really sexy.”

Alex discussed everything from Japanese vending machines selling used underwear to cosplay, fetish clubs and her experiences working in lads’ mags during the 2000s.
