Drugs boss escapes from Warrington jail as police launch manhunt

A drug boss has made a daring escape from a Warrington prison. Daniel Buckley was last spotted at HMP Thorn Cross in Appleton on the morning of Saturday, May 30.
Police are currently conducting numerous enquiries in an effort to locate the 37-year-old and are appealing to anyone with knowledge of his location to come forward.
He is described as being 5′ 10″ tall, of medium build, with dark hair and was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt, grey jacket, black jogging bottoms, grey Nike trainers and carrying a white shopping bag.
Buckley is known to have connections to the Manchester area, particularly Failsworth and Openshaw.
In January 2024, Buckley received a 16-year and four-month sentence for his prominent role in an organised crime syndicate. Buckley admitted to conspiracy to supply cocaine, conspiracy to supply amphetamine, involvement in a money laundering scheme and possession of amphetamine with intent to supply.
Officers are currently conducting numerous enquiries in an effort to locate Buckley and they are appealing to anyone with knowledge of his location to come forward, reports the Liverpool Echo.
In a statement, Cheshire Constabulary said: ” Police are appealing for information after a man absconded from a prison in Warrington. Daniel Buckley was last seen at HMP Thorn Cross in Appleton on the morning of Saturday 30 May.
“Officers are currently carrying out a number of enquiries in a bid to trace the 37-year-old, and they are urging anyone with information as to his whereabouts to get in touch.
“He is described as 5’ 10” tall, of a medium build, with dark hair, and was wearing a grey t-shirt, grey jacket, black joggers, grey Nike trainers and was carrying a white shopping bag.
“Buckley is known to have links to the Manchester area, specifically Failsworth and Openshaw, as well as Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Officers are currently carrying out a number of enquiries in a bid to trace Buckley and they are urging anyone with information as to his whereabouts to get in touch.”
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Public protection is our priority and prisoners who fail to return following temporary release face strict punishments, including a return to a closed prison and being prevented from moving to open conditions for up to two years.
“The police are working urgently to recapture this individual, and we urge anyone with information to go to the police.”
