England’s WAGs can splash out over £1,000 on bottle of wine at World Cup camp

England’s WAGs can splurge over £1,000 on a bottle of booze during their World Cup knees up.

The high-maintenance partners of the Three Lions will have no trouble burning through cash in the US. High-end Kansas City eateries like the rustic Lazia offer an eye-watering $1,515 (£1,126) bottle of red: a Vietti Villero Riserva Barolo 2016.

If the glamorous pack fancy some top-tier bubbly instead, the city’s premier live music venues are locking and loading their fridges with $474 (£351) bottles of champagne. The mega-money price tags come as Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup 2026 squad prepares to jet into Missouri on June 13.

They could be based in nearby Kansas for over a month if all goes according to plan on the pitch. Despite the Three Lions not playing a game in Kansas City itself, the location was selected by the FA for several reasons, including its affectionate nickname among locals as the Soccer Capital of America.

While the stars are training, their families will have no shortage of venues to paint the town red. Local reporter and author Nate Bukaty detailed exactly what the Three Lions’ other halves can expect from the city’s nightlife.

“Obviously, you’ve got to go get some barbecue because this is the greatest barbecue city in the world,” he said. “There’s also a handful [of places to go out at night]. One thing I would point out is that this is a city with an incredibly deep connection to jazz.

“I believe there was a movement in the early 1900s called the Kansas City Jazz Era. Charlie Parker is from Kansas City. So there are some really cool jazz clubs in town. One’s called the Green Lady Lounge and you’ve got the Black Dolphin. They honour that jazz tradition. I think that’s really cool. The Crossroads District [home to Lazia] is also a cool spot.”

Away from the late-night revelries and thousand-pound receipts, the quiet Prairie Village suburb where England’s stars will actually sleep seems like an ideal spot to kick back away from the limelight.

The leafy, affluent enclave is famous for its upscale outdoor shopping boutiques, Pilates studios and gourmet juice bars, making it the perfect playground for families to detox between matches.

Matt Besler, a Sporting KC legend and former US Men’s National Team defender, believes the WAGs will love the change of pace. He said: “One of the nicknames of Prairie Village, people call it PV. This also stands for Perfect Village. It’s a perfect place to raise a family. It has a neighbourhood feel and is easy to get around.

“Lots of young kids and families. Good schools, good markets, grocery stores, everything. So I think the English, the players’ families, it’s going to be a good setup for them.

“Because it’s safe, they can feel like they can get around if you want to get away for a coffee or a walk. You’re able to do that. Fresh air. I’m sure they’ll be recognised, but I don’t think you’ll be hassled or bothered too much.”
